Product description: Silad Powder FG powdered antifoam

At Quimiconsult we manufacture Silad Powder FG, a food-grade silicone-based powdered antifoam, formulated as a homogeneous, free-flowing, water-dispersible white powder. Silad Powder FG is designed to eliminate and prevent foam formation in dry applications, offering performance comparable to liquid antifoams even at low concentrations. Its powder format makes it ideal for food processes and formulations handled dry, where a liquid antifoam would be awkward to incorporate or would affect the product's consistency. It is long-lasting, stable over a wide temperature range and works in both anionic and nonionic systems. As direct manufacturers operating under a certified SQF (Safe Quality Food) quality management system, we guarantee batch-to-batch consistency, with availability from our plant in Monterrey, Nuevo León, and shipping throughout Mexico.

Foam is a critical operational problem in the powdered food industry and in fermentation, filtration and mixing processes: it reduces the usable capacity of equipment, complicates filling and dosing, causes spills and affects the consistency and quality of the finished product. Silad Powder FG solves this problem by delivering the foam-control power of silicone (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) in a powder format that is easy to incorporate into dry mixes: once the powdered product comes into contact with water during processing, the silicone is released and acts by breaking and preventing foam, with the advantage of clean handling, no liquid pumping and excellent storage stability.

For anyone looking for a food-grade powdered antifoam, an antifoam for dry mixes and powdered beverages, a defoamer for biofermentation, foam control for powdered soups or fruit and vegetable processing, or a dimethicone / PDMS-based silicone powder antifoam, Silad Powder FG is the technical answer in the Quimiconsult catalog, backed by in-house manufacturing and dosing advice.

Why a powdered antifoam?

In many food formulations the product is prepared, transported and sold dry: beverage mixes, powdered soups and broths, flavorings and seasonings, soy powder, premixes. Incorporating a liquid antifoam into these systems is complicated, can affect powder flowability and makes uniform dosing difficult. Silad Powder FG solves this by being a free-flowing powder that blends evenly with the other dry ingredients, preserving the dry nature of the formulation and releasing the silicone's foam control when the product is rehydrated or processed. The formulator thus gets the performance of a liquid silicone antifoam with the convenience, cleanliness and storage stability of a powdered ingredient.

Applications of powdered antifoam across industries

Silad Powder FG is widely used in biofermentation and filtration processes, as well as in the preparation of dry mixes for beverages, soups and powdered products such as instant soy. It is also used in the production of margarines, powdered flavorings and jams, and in fruit and vegetable processing, where efficient foam control is required. Being food grade, it fits naturally into formulations within the food and beverage antifoams category, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance. In the agrochemical industry, it is used as an additive in fermentation processes and in liquid or solid mixes, and it is part of the agrochemical antifoams line. The pharmaceutical and wellness sector also relies on this antifoam to control foam in the manufacture of vitamins, supplements and personal hygiene products, a category you can browse under pharmaceutical and wellness antifoams.

Biofermentation and filtration

In biofermentation processes, agitation and aeration generate foam that reduces the usable capacity of the fermenter and can cause carryover and contamination. Silad Powder FG controls the foam so the full volume of the equipment can be used. In filtration processes, it prevents foam that interferes with flow and filtration efficiency.

Dry mixes for beverages, soups and soy powder

In dry mixes for beverages, powdered soups and broths, and soy powder, Silad Powder FG is added directly to the dry mix so that, when the product is rehydrated, it controls foam formation during preparation, improving the consumer experience and product presentation.

Powdered flavorings and seasonings

In the production of powdered flavorings and seasonings, its dry format integrates without altering the powder nature of the formulation, providing foam control when the product is used in cooking or processing.

Margarine production

In margarine production, it helps control foam in process stages where air incorporation and agitation generate unwanted foam.

Jam production and fruit and vegetable processing

In jam production and fruit and vegetable processing, where heating, agitation and the sugar and pectin content promote foam formation, Silad Powder FG helps control it, improving yield, appearance and filling efficiency.

Agrochemical industry

In the agrochemical industry, Silad Powder FG is used as an antifoam additive in fermentation processes and in the preparation of liquid or solid mixes, where it controls the foam that affects filling, dosing and process efficiency. It is part of the agrochemical antifoams line.

Pharmaceutical and wellness

In the pharmaceutical and wellness sector, Silad Powder FG helps control foam in the manufacture of vitamins, supplements and personal hygiene products, where its favorable safety profile and powder format make incorporation easier. It can be found among the pharmaceutical and wellness antifoams.

Other process applications

Given the versatility of powdered silicone antifoams, Silad Powder FG can be evaluated in other food industry processes and dry formulations where foam is a problem. Suitability and dosage for each application must be validated in the laboratory under the customer's specific conditions; the Quimiconsult technical team can support the trials.

  • Most dry-mix applications: 0.1% – 0.5% by weight
Note: Adjust based on observed performance
  • Determining the optimal level: Evaluate in the laboratory
Note: Optimize the water content of the final formulation for the desired consistency

The water content of the final formulation should be optimized to achieve the desired consistency of the finished product. The Quimiconsult technical team can support the customer with laboratory evaluation and fine-tuning of the dosage.

Mechanism of action

Silad Powder FG delivers the characteristic foam control of silicone antifoams in a powder format. The active silicone (polydimethylsiloxane), which has very low surface tension and is insoluble in the foaming medium, enters the bubble walls and destabilizes the film that holds them together, causing them to burst (defoaming action) and preventing new foam from forming (antifoam action). Because it is carried on a powder matrix, this active blends homogeneously into dry mixes and is released when the product comes into contact with water during processing or preparation.

Safety, handling and storage

Silad Powder FG has a favorable safety profile, typical of a food-grade powdered silicone antifoam. According to its Safety Data Sheet, its only GHS classification is Skin Irritation Category 3 (H316, "Causes mild skin irritation"), with the signal word Warning and no hazard pictogram. It contains no reportable hazardous components, is not regulated for transport and its NFPA rating is Health 0, Flammability 0, Reactivity 0.

Personal protective equipment (PPE):
wearing gloves, chemical safety goggles and suitable clothing is recommended, and contact with the eyes should be avoided. Wash with soap and water after handling.

First aid:
in case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and remove contact lenses if easy to do; in case of skin contact, wash with soap and water; if swallowed, do not induce vomiting, give water if the person is conscious (maximum 2 glasses) and seek medical attention.

Storage:
keep the container tightly closed when not in use, at room temperature, in a dry place away from direct sunlight, to preserve the product's quality and stability.

This section is a handling guide; the full GHS classification and precautionary statements must be taken from the product's current Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Silad Powder FG compared with other antifoams

Powdered antifoam vs. liquid antifoam:
in formulations handled dry (beverage mixes, soups, flavorings, premixes), a powdered antifoam such as Silad Powder FG blends in homogeneously without altering the dry nature of the product or the flowability of the powder, whereas a liquid antifoam would be awkward to dose and could affect consistency. For liquid processes (wastewater, CIP cleaning, recirculation systems), the liquid silicone version (for example, Silad B700) is usually the right choice.

Silicone antifoam vs. organic antifoams:
silicone offers high efficiency at low doses, fast and persistent action, and stability over a wide temperature range—decisive advantages in demanding food processes compared with organic antifoams, which usually require higher doses.
