Biocides for Paints & Coatings

Preventol® WB Description — Broad-Spectrum Phenolic Biocide, Industrial Grade   Preventol® WB is a broad-spectrum biocide based on phenolic active ingredients, developed by Quimiconsult for the preservation of water-based formulations against spoilage by bacteria, yeast and mold. It is a purple liquid, soluble in water, with a minimum active content of 42%, and it is widely recommended for preserving construction additives and concrete admixtures, coatings and paints, adhesive dispersions, lubricants and household products.   Its mode of action works on two fronts: first, it reduces the initial bacterial load brought in by raw materials and process water as much as possible; then, through a constant release of active ingredients, it keeps microbial growth under control throughout the shelf life of the finished product. This prevents the typical problems of a contaminated formulation: bad odors, loss of viscosity, phase separation, gas generation, color changes, skin formation or visib…

Description of bronopol antimicrobial preservative Industrial grade bronopol is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative and biocide supplied as a high-purity white crystal (≥ 99 %), used for microbiological control in aqueous formulations and industrial systems. Its chemical name is 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol and it belongs to the nitroalcohol family, compounds recognized for their high efficacy against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as molds and yeasts. Thanks to its high water solubility (up to 28 % at 25 °C) and compatibility with glycols and surfactants, bronopol can be easily incorporated into liquid formulations, acting as a preservative in personal care products, detergents, paper slurries, cooling systems and industrial solutions where microbial contamination affects product stability, performance and shelf life. Its stability in the slightly acidic to neutral pH range (4.0 – 7.0) makes it an excellent choice for formulations that require microbiolo…

Preventol® BIT 20 N Description: BIT Biocide for the Preservation of Water-Based Formulations At Quimiconsult we offer Preventol® BIT 20 N, a broad-spectrum biocide formulated as a stable solution of 20% 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) in dipropylene glycol. It is designed for the in-can preservation of water-based industrial preparations, protecting them against decomposition caused by bacteria, fungi and yeasts during storage and throughout their shelf life. Preventol® BIT 20 N is a yellow to slightly amber liquid, easy to incorporate and dose, used in water-based paints, polymer emulsions and dispersions, adhesives, printing inks, pigment and mineral slurries, cutting fluids, agrochemical additives and leather processing. Its active ingredient is thermally stable with low volatility and it does not release formaldehyde, making it a modern alternative to formaldehyde-donor preservatives. Key advantages include its wide application pH range (4.0 – 12.0), tolerance of process tempera…

BIT 5% Description — BIT Biocide for Water-Based Formulations   BIT 5% is a broad-spectrum biocide for the preservation of water-based industrial preparations against decomposition caused by bacteria, fungi and yeasts. It is a stable solution of 5% 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) in dipropylene glycol, a slightly yellow liquid, soluble in water at recommended concentrations, that does not release formaldehyde.   Its active ingredient is very stable, with good thermal stability and low volatility: BIT 5% can be used over a wide pH range (4.0 – 12.0) and up to a maximum temperature of 90 °C, which allows it to be added in the initial phases of the process to reduce the bacterial load from the moment raw materials are added. Its liquid formulation allows easy addition and correct dosing.   BIT 5% is recommended for preserving polymer emulsions, water-based paints, adhesives and waterproofing coatings, printing inks, pigment slurries for paper and mineral slurries, cutting fluids and coo…
