STR Sanitizer Description — Dual-Function CIP Sanitizer: Descaling Action and Biocidal Action
At Quimiconsult we manufacture STR Sanitizer, a dual-function CIP (Clean in Place) sanitizer based on perpropionic acid that combines the acid detergent phase and the disinfection phase in a single product and a single recirculation. In the acid phase, its unique blend of fatty acids and low-foam surfactants removes scale (descaling action) and, at the same time, eliminates 100% of the remaining microorganisms (biocidal action). Its short-chain surfactants enable biocidal action within seconds and a descaling action that reaches even microcracks and fittings. With a minimum total acidity of 30%, a pH of 1.50 to 3.50 (in a 1% solution) and a low-foam profile, STR Sanitizer is designed for CIP cleaning and disinfection in the food, dairy and beverage industries.
STR Sanitizer optimizes the CIP program: it does the job of an acid detergent and a disinfectant with a single product. Instead of running an acid detergent cycle followed by a separate sanitizing stage —two products, two stages—, STR Sanitizer descales and disinfects in the same acid recirculation, reducing the number of products in inventory, cycle time, water consumption and cleaning downtime. Its biocidal power is decisive: 100% elimination of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L with a contact time of only 12 seconds. It is applied after the alkaline recirculation and its rinse, as the acid-sanitizing stage of the CIP program.
As direct manufacturers at our plant in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, we control every stage of formulation and production, with analytical verification of each lot. STR Sanitizer is NSF and Kosher certified and comes with a technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (SDS). For those looking for an acid CIP sanitizer, an acid disinfectant for stainless steel, a descaling sanitizer for silos, tanks and pipelines, or a one-step CIP cleaner and sanitizer made in Mexico, STR Sanitizer is the technical answer in Quimiconsult's catalog.
Dual function: acid phase and disinfection optimized with a single product
STR Sanitizer is a dual-function CIP sanitizer whose chemistry —based on perpropionic acid (an oxidizing peracid), with fatty acids and low-foam surfactants— performs two functions simultaneously during the acid recirculation:
- Descaling action (acid detergent phase): dissolves mineral scale (carbonates, phosphates and deposits from process water and product) on stainless steel surfaces, even in microcracks and fittings.
- Biocidal action (disinfection phase): its oxidizing action eliminates 100% of the remaining microorganisms within seconds (100% of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L in 12 seconds).
The value of STR Sanitizer is optimization. In a traditional CIP program, the acid detergent phase and the disinfection phase are two separate stages, with two different products. STR Sanitizer performs both at the same time, with a single product and a single acid recirculation: it disinfects while it descales. For the plant, this translates into:
- One product instead of two (fewer SKUs in inventory, less handling, simpler purchasing).
- One stage instead of two (shorter CIP cycle).
- Lower water consumption and less cleaning downtime.
- Surface descaled and sanitized in a single pass, ready for production.
Applied after the alkaline cycle and its rinse, STR Sanitizer is the way to optimize the acid phase and the disinfection phase with a single solution.
Independent laboratory validation: ALS Global microbial challenge
The biocidal power of STR Sanitizer is backed by a microbial challenge test performed by the independent laboratory ALS Global, with a Satisfactory result. In the test, STR Sanitizer achieved a 7-log reduction (total elimination, 0 CFU/mL) against two reference microorganisms, at a dilution of only 6 mL of product in 1000 L of water:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Product dilution:
6 mL in 1000 L
Control count:
11,000,000 CFU/mL
Test result:
0 CFU/mL
Reduction:
Log 7
Clostridium perfringens
Product dilution:
6 mL in 1000 L
Control count:
20,000,000 CFU/mL
Test result:
0 CFU/mL
Reduction:
Log 7
A 7-log reduction means eliminating 99.99999% of the microbial load: starting from control counts of between 11 and 20 million CFU/mL, the test yielded 0 CFU/mL. These results, on a resistant gram-negative pathogen (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and a spore-forming anaerobe (Clostridium perfringens), confirm the broad-spectrum biocidal efficacy of STR Sanitizer even at very low doses, and complement its validated performance of 100% elimination of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L in 12 seconds. Third-party validation by ALS Global provides objective support for food safety audits and for approving the product at your plant.
STR Sanitizer technical features
STR Sanitizer is a low-foam, acidic liquid concentrate based on perpropionic acid, with a minimum total acidity of 30% and a density of 1.10 to 1.50. Its combination of fatty acids and short-chain surfactants gives it its dual descaling and biocidal action, and its low-foam profile makes it suitable for recirculation in closed CIP circuits, where excessive foam would affect the pumps. Its biocidal action is fast (seconds) and its descaling capacity reaches the microcracks and fittings where microorganisms and deposits lodge.

How does STR Sanitizer work?
STR Sanitizer works during the acid recirculation through mechanisms that operate in parallel:
Fast oxidizing biocidal action. Its perpropionic acid-based chemistry (an oxidizing peracid) destroys the remaining microorganisms by oxidation, with an action that is complete within seconds —100% of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L in 12 seconds— and broad-spectrum against the residual microbial load of the equipment.
Acid descaling. The total acidity (minimum 30%) dissolves mineral scale on stainless steel, converting it into soluble salts that the cycle flow carries away.
Penetration through short-chain surfactants. The surfactants allow both the biocidal and the descaling action to reach the microcracks and fittings where soil and microorganisms take refuge.
Low foam compatible with CIP. Its low-foam profile is compatible with the flow rates and pressures of CIP systems, preventing pump cavitation and loss of hydraulic efficiency.
Where STR Sanitizer fits: the acid-sanitizing stage of CIP
Within Quimiconsult's CIP cleaning and sanitizing program, STR Sanitizer is the acid-sanitizing stage, applied after the alkaline cycle and its rinse:
- Pre-rinse with water to flush out coarse soil.
- Alkaline cycle to remove fat and protein: CLK Premium (chlorinated alkaline) or Alkaflow CIP300 (chlorine-free alkaline).
- Water rinse.
- Acid-sanitizing stage with STR Sanitizer, which descales and sanitizes in a single recirculation (1.5 ml/L, 4 – 10 min, 30 – 40 °C). (When mineral scale is severe and a more powerful dedicated acid cycle is required, Lactac LF, a low-foam acid for CIP, is also used.)
- Equipment ready for production.
For disinfecting surfaces and out-of-circuit equipment (COP), Quimiconsult offers the Anticel line based on peracetic acid (broad-spectrum, no-rinse oxidizing sanitizer) and Sanidet / Quaternary Ammonium for surfaces and facilities.
Important: STR Sanitizer is an acid product; it must never be mixed with or come into contact with alkaline detergents or chlorinated alkaline products (such as CLK Premium), and a complete rinse must always be performed between the alkaline cycle and the acid stage.
STR Sanitizer applications
STR Sanitizer is indicated for CIP cleaning and disinfection in the food, dairy and beverage industries:
Dairy industry and milk production
This is a benchmark application: CIP sanitizing and descaling in dairy products and milk production facilities, where the scale load (calcium phosphates and carbonates) and microbiological requirements are high. STR Sanitizer leaves surfaces descaled and sanitized in a single acid recirculation.
Silos and stainless steel surfaces
Sanitizing stainless steel surfaces in silos and large-capacity tanks by CIP recirculation, to maintain the hygienic condition of product-contact surfaces.
Cooling, pasteurization and storage systems
Cleaning and disinfection of cooling, pasteurization and storage systems in the food industry, where thermal efficiency and surface hygiene are critical.
Conveying and transfer pipelines and tanks
CIP sanitizing of conveying and transfer pipelines, and process and storage tanks, where the recirculation of STR Sanitizer descales and removes the microbial load from internal walls and fittings.
STR Sanitizer directions for use and dosage
Application: after the alkaline recirculation and its rinse, apply 1.5 ml/L of STR Sanitizer concentrate, manually or automatically, calculated on the total water volume of the system.
Time and temperature: recirculate for 4 to 10 minutes at a temperature of 30 to 40 °C.
Good practices: check the dose against the system volume; validate the result with subsequent microbiological counts; and do not mix with alkaline or chlorinated products. Quimiconsult's technical team supports the definition and validation of the CIP protocol.
STR Sanitizer safety, handling and storage
STR Sanitizer is a concentrated acid sanitizer based on an oxidizing peracid (perpropionic acid) and must be handled following the recommendations of its current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Due to its acidic and oxidizing nature, safety glasses, acid-resistant gloves and protective clothing are recommended when handling the concentrate; in case of eye or skin contact, wash with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
Incompatibilities: keep away from alkalis, reducing agents and combustible or organic materials. Never mix with alkaline detergents or chlorinated alkaline products (mixing a chlorinated product with an acid releases toxic chlorine gas; neutralization with an alkali generates heat). See Section 10 of the current SDS for the full reactivity classification and the peracid's incompatibilities.
Storage: at room temperature, in the closed original container, in a cool, dry, ventilated place, protected from heat and direct sunlight, and away from incompatible materials. Classified and labeled according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS); the full classification, H statements and precautionary statements must be taken from the current SDS. Dispose of leftover product and containers in accordance with applicable environmental regulations.
STR Sanitizer compared with other sanitizing solutions
STR Sanitizer (acid CIP sanitizer) vs. a separate acid cycle + sanitizer: STR Sanitizer combines descaling and sanitizing in a single acid recirculation, simplifying the CIP program; a traditional scheme would run an acid cycle and then a sanitizer in separate steps.
STR Sanitizer (perpropionic acid, CIP) vs. Anticel (peracetic acid, surfaces and equipment): both are oxidizing peracid-based sanitizers. STR Sanitizer is designed for the acid-sanitizing stage of CIP (with built-in descaling action); Anticel is the broad-spectrum, no-rinse peracetic acid sanitizer for disinfecting surfaces and process equipment (COP). They are chosen according to the point in the program.
STR Sanitizer vs. Lactac LF (CIP acid detergent): Lactac LF is an acid detergent focused on removing severe mineral scale; STR Sanitizer is an acid sanitizer that, in addition to descaling, provides the biocidal power of the sanitizing stage. For severe scale they can be used together.
STR Sanitizer vs. imported sanitizers: it guarantees specified acidity and biocidal power, NSF and Kosher certification, in-house manufacturing with lot-by-lot control, direct technical support and nationwide availability, without the logistical dependence of an imported product.
Frequently asked questions about STR Sanitizer
What is STR Sanitizer and what is it used for?
It is an acid sanitizer for CIP application based on perpropionic acid, manufactured by Quimiconsult, which during the acid recirculation descales and sanitizes in a single step the stainless steel surfaces of silos, tanks, pipelines and cooling, pasteurization and storage systems in the food and dairy industries.
Does it really clean and sanitize in a single step?
Yes. Its chemistry combines descaling (removal of mineral scale) and sanitizing (elimination of 100% of the remaining microorganisms) during the same acid recirculation, which is applied after the alkaline cycle and its rinse. This integrates into a single stage what would otherwise be a separate acid cycle and sanitizing step.
How fast is its biocidal power?
It eliminates 100% of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L with a contact time of 12 seconds, thanks to the oxidizing action of the peracid and its short-chain surfactants that reach microcracks and fittings.
At what dose, time and temperature is it applied?
1.5 ml/L of concentrate on the total water volume of the system, for 4 to 10 minutes, at 30 – 40 °C, after the alkaline recirculation and rinse.
Has its biocidal power been validated by an independent laboratory?
Yes. In a microbial challenge test by the independent laboratory ALS Global (Satisfactory result), STR Sanitizer achieved a 7-log reduction —total elimination, 0 CFU/mL— against Pseudomonas aeruginosa (control of 11 million CFU/mL) and Clostridium perfringens (control of 20 million CFU/mL), at a dilution of 6 mL in 1000 L. This is equivalent to eliminating 99.99999% of the microbial load, and complements the 100% elimination of E. coli at 1.5 ml/L in 12 seconds.
How is it different from Anticel?
Both are oxidizing peracid-based sanitizers. STR Sanitizer is the acid sanitizer for the CIP stage (with built-in descaling); Anticel is the broad-spectrum, no-rinse peracetic acid sanitizer for surfaces and out-of-circuit equipment (COP).
Can it be mixed with alkaline or chlorinated detergents?
No, never. It is an acid product: mixing it with a chlorinated alkaline (such as CLK Premium) releases toxic chlorine gas, and mixing it with an alkali generates heat. There must always be a complete rinse between the alkaline cycle and the acid stage.
What certifications does it have?
It is NSF and Kosher certified and is manufactured at Quimiconsult, San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León.
