About the Brand: TITANOS®

TITANOS
®
is an internationally recognized manufacturer specializing in titanium dioxide pigments for high-performance industrial applications. Its production processes focus on controlling purity, particle size distribution, surface treatment and product stability, key factors for maintaining consistency in technical formulations.

The
R900 grade was developed as a multipurpose titanium dioxide that allows manufacturers to improve dispersion efficiency, reduce grinding times and obtain more stable systems in paints, plastics and coatings. For industry in Mexico, this means access to a reliable, competitive TiO₂ technically backed by Quimiconsult, with local availability and support in application development.

Titanium Dioxide Details

Our R900 rutile titanium dioxide comes as a
fine white powder with a TiO₂ content of 92% or higher, classified under ISO 591 R2 and ASTM D-476-00 Type II, and designated in the Colour Index as CI 77891 (Pigment White 6). Its specific gravity of approximately 4.1 g/cm³, low oil absorption (≤ 20 g/100 g) and pH between 6.0 and 8.5 in aqueous dispersion support efficient incorporation into a variety of formulation systems.

The product's controlled fineness, with a 45 µm sieve residue of 0.05% or less, enables fast, homogeneous dispersion, reducing process times and energy consumption during grinding. It is available in
25 kg bags and 50 kg drums, packaging designed to simplify handling, storage and logistics control in production plants.

Titanium Dioxide Properties

The surface treatment of TiO₂ R900 improves its wettability and compatibility with resins, polymers and coating systems, resulting in formulations that are more stable and easier to process. Its high refractive index provides superior hiding power, producing finishes with greater whiteness, gloss and uniformity.

Its low oil absorption helps control system viscosity and makes it easier to design formulations with high pigment loading. Its thermal stability allows it to be used in processes such as extrusion, injection molding and curing without affecting its optical properties, while its UV resistance supports color durability in outdoor-exposed applications.

These characteristics make it possible to develop products with
higher yield, lower pigment consumption and better long-term performance.

The rutile crystal structure of TiO₂ is characterized by its high refractive index, which is responsible for its extraordinary ability to scatter visible light. This phenomenon produces a high level of opacity, whiteness and brightness, even at low concentrations, improving hiding power in paints, plastics, inks and coatings.

Controlled particle size distribution promotes uniform dispersion within the matrix, which translates into:

  • greater optical efficiency
  • better color development
  • visual uniformity
  • reduced transparency effect

In exterior applications, this same structure provides high resistance to UV radiation, helping protect resins and extend the service life of the system

Titanium Dioxide Applications and Uses

R900 rutile titanium dioxide is used mainly as a white pigment in the
paints and coatings industry, where it provides opacity, whiteness and weather resistance in architectural and industrial systems. In the plastics and PVC industry, it is incorporated into masterbatch and compounds to improve UV stability, color uniformity and processing performance.

In the manufacture of
printing inks, paper, synthetic fibers, rubber, ceramics and glass, it acts as an opacifying agent and optical enhancer, delivering end products with greater durability and visual consistency. It is also used in construction materials and precast elements, where a stable white color and uniform appearance are required.

Storage and Handling

To preserve the quality and functional properties of titanium dioxide, the product should be stored in its original container, tightly closed and protected from moisture. It is recommended to keep it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, avoiding dust generation during handling.

During loading, unloading and mixing operations, it is advisable to wear personal protective equipment such as a dust mask and safety glasses to avoid inhaling fine particles. Proper inventory rotation and control of storage conditions ensure the stability of the pigment and its performance in industrial processes.

Other Names and Synonyms for Titanium Dioxide

R900 rutile titanium dioxide is identified in the industry under various technical, commercial and common names that all refer to the same inorganic compound used as a high-performance white pigment. The abbreviated form
TiO₂ is the chemical nomenclature most commonly used in technical data sheets, certificates of analysis, safety data sheets and formulation specifications, as it allows titanium dioxide to be recognized immediately within production systems, purchase orders and international trade documentation.

The term
Pigment White 6 (CI 77891) corresponds to its classification in the Colour Index, widely used in the paints, plastics, inks and coatings industries to identify pigments with high hiding power and color stability. Similarly, the expression titanium white is traditionally used in the coatings and construction materials industries to highlight its role as an opacifying agent and source of whiteness in formulations that require visual uniformity and high reflectance.

In technical and scientific contexts, titanium dioxide is also known as
titanium(IV) oxide or Titania, names derived from its chemical composition and used in specialized literature, research and development processes and academic documentation. These variants are common in materials analysis, surface studies and applications that evaluate the optical, thermal and structural properties of TiO₂.

In production and industrial procurement processes, it is common to find terms such as
rutile titanium dioxide, titanium dioxide pigment, TiO₂ for paints, TiO₂ for plastics, titanium dioxide for masterbatch or white pigment for coatings, which describe its specific application within the formulation and help manufacturers identify the right grade for the system it will be incorporated into.

The spelling variant
bióxido de titanio is a common Spanish search term used in technical and commercial inquiries and in search engines, especially by users looking for general product information, suppliers in Mexico or industrial applications of TiO₂. Although less common in formal technical documentation, this name is relevant from an organic search standpoint, as it reflects the way many users identify the material in their purchasing processes.

Likewise, on the international market it may be found simply as
titanium dioxide, rutile titanium dioxide or by its trade designation R900, terms that make it easier to identify in import, export and raw material approval processes and when comparing grades from different manufacturers.

All of these names refer to the same industrial grade titanium dioxide supplied by Quimiconsult, used as a white pigment, opacifying agent and optical enhancer in multiple production processes that require lot-to-lot consistency, long-term stability and reliable performance under industrial conditions.
