Ditanium Description — Self-Dispersing White Colorant Based on Titanium Dioxide
Ditanium is a self-dispersing white colorant from Quimiconsult: a complex of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and organic dispersants that delivers maximum dispersion performance. It is a free-flowing white powder with a titanium dioxide content of 87.5 – 90.0% by weight, and it provides a consistent distribution of titanium dioxide particles for uniform white coloration.
Unlike conventional titanium dioxide, which tends to agglomerate and usually requires pre-dispersion or intensive milling, Ditanium carries its own dispersants in a balanced formulation that makes optimal dispersion easier during the process. The result is excellent optical properties — whiteness and opacity — and better consistency, cohesion and texture in the final product. Its heat resistance allows normal use in processes involving temperature.
At Quimiconsult we stock Ditanium in Monterrey, Nuevo León, with shipping throughout Mexico, a technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (SDS) available for download, and technical support to define the right dosage for your formulation.
What is Ditanium? Self-dispersing titanium dioxide
Titanium dioxide is the industry's reference white pigment thanks to its high refractive index, which gives it a strong ability to scatter light and provide whiteness and opacity. Its main processing challenge is dispersion: fine particles tend to form agglomerates that, if not broken up, reduce hiding power, cause specks or streaks and force the use of more pigment than necessary.
Ditanium tackles that challenge in the formulation itself. By combining titanium dioxide with organic dispersants in a single complex, each particle is incorporated more evenly into the matrix, resulting in uniform coloration and better use of the pigment. That is why it is known as self-dispersing titanium dioxide or self-dispersing white pigment.

How does Ditanium work? Pigment and dispersant in one product
The whiteness and opacity that titanium dioxide provides depend on how well its particles are separated: an agglomerate scatters light far less effectively than the same pigment well distributed. In general, organic dispersants such as those in Ditanium coat and separate the titanium dioxide particles, helping them distribute evenly in the mix and preventing them from clumping together again.
That is why the technical data sheet recommends adding Ditanium in the initial stages of production: later process steps (such as mixing, homogenizing or milling) further improve its dispersion, and the pigment reaches the finished product fully integrated.
Ditanium applications
Ditanium is used wherever a uniform white, opacity and good texture are needed from a pigment that is easy to incorporate. The most common applications are:
Food: dairy, bakery, confectionery and dressings
In dairy and dairy products, confectionery and pastry, bakery, dressings, soups and sauces, and snacks, titanium dioxide is used to provide a uniform white color and opacity. Good pigment dispersion contributes to a homogeneous appearance. Use in food must comply with the health regulations that apply in the destination market.
Coatings and paints
In coatings, titanium dioxide is the pigment that provides whiteness and hiding power. Good dispersion is key to its optical performance.
Ceramics, tile, concrete and precast
In tile and ceramics, and in white or light-colored concrete and precast products, titanium dioxide provides whiteness and color uniformity.
Personal care
In hair and skin care formulations, titanium dioxide is used to provide white color and opacity. Check the cosmetic regulations that apply to your product.
Ditanium directions for use and dosage
The Ditanium dosage depends on the desired whiteness and opacity, the other components of the formulation and the process. Recommendations from its technical data sheet:
- Determine the optimal dose with a laboratory trial, including all the components of the formulation.
- Add it in the initial stages of production, to take advantage of later steps that improve its dispersion.
Our technical team can help you define the addition point and dosage for your process.
Ditanium competitive advantages
- Self-dispersing: pigment and dispersant in a single product, with a balanced formulation.
- Uniform coloration from the consistent distribution of TiO2 particles.
- Whiteness and opacity with excellent optical properties.
- Heat resistant for processes involving temperature.
- Adds consistency, cohesion and texture to the final product.
- Free-flowing powder, easy to handle and dose.
- Minimum shelf life of 12 months.
- Stock in Monterrey and technical documentation (TDS and SDS) available.
Ditanium compared with conventional titanium dioxide
- Conventional titanium dioxide: powdered pigment that usually requires pre-dispersion, wetting or milling to break up agglomerates and develop its whiteness.
- Ditanium: complex of titanium dioxide (87.5 – 90.0%) with organic dispersants, designed to disperse easily during the process and achieve uniform coloration.
Ditanium safety, handling and storage
According to its SDS, Ditanium is classified under the GHS with the signal word Warning: it causes eye irritation (H319) and is classified as Carcinogenicity category 2, since the IARC classifies titanium dioxide (CAS 13463-67-7) as possibly carcinogenic to humans (group 2B). It is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport. Main recommendations:
- Personal protection: safety glasses with side shields or a face shield, neoprene gloves, apron, protective clothing and boots, and a dust mask.
- Handling: avoid breathing the dust; wash thoroughly after handling.
- Storage: above 5 °C, in a tightly closed and labeled container, in a dry, closed place, unstacked. Avoid high temperatures.
- First aid (eyes): rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, remove contact lenses and get medical attention.
- Spills: vacuum or sweep up the material, avoiding dispersion, and place it in a labeled container for disposal by a licensed contractor.
Read the full SDS (in accordance with NOM-018-STPS-2015) before handling the product.
Frequently asked questions about Ditanium
What is Ditanium?
It is a self-dispersing white colorant: a complex of titanium dioxide (87.5 – 90.0% by weight) and organic dispersants that disperses easily and provides uniform white coloration, with whiteness and opacity.
What does "self-dispersing" mean?
That the product already includes the organic dispersants that help separate and distribute the titanium dioxide particles in the mix, instead of relying only on process energy to break up pigment agglomerates.
What dosage of Ditanium is used?
It depends on the desired whiteness and opacity and on the rest of the formulation. The technical data sheet recommends determining the optimal dose with a laboratory trial that includes all the components.
At what point in the process is it added?
In the initial stages of production, to take advantage of later steps that improve its dispersion.
How is it stored and how long does it last?
Above 5 °C, in a dry, closed place, unstacked. It has a minimum shelf life of 12 months under those conditions.
