Celerad LC Description — High-Effectiveness Nonionic Superwetting Compound for Agrochemical Formulations and Spray Mixes

At Quimiconsult we manufacture Celerad LC, a high-effectiveness nonionic superwetting compound, formulated directly in our plant to reduce surface tension in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions. Celerad LC improves the wetting and dispersion of spray mixes and agrochemical formulations, enhancing coverage, uptake and use of the active ingredient in water-based herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. It is a clear liquid with a density of 0.90 – 1.10 g/cc and a pH of 6.0 – 7.0, and it is recommended at concentrations of 0.5 to 1.0%. As direct manufacturers with our own R&D laboratory and more than 30 years of experience in specialty chemicals, we guarantee batch-to-batch consistency, with availability from our plant in Monterrey, Nuevo León, and shipping throughout Mexico.

Celerad LC is the most cost-effective option among Quimiconsult's nonionic superwetters: it delivers the same type of adjuvant function —superwetting, improved coverage, uptake and dispersion— with a more competitive cost-benefit ratio, making it ideal when you want superwetter performance at a better cost per hectare or per formulation batch. It is a formulated compound, not a pure trisiloxane, so it is positioned as the high-performance, cost-optimized alternative to premium 100% trisiloxane-based superwetters.

For anyone looking for a high-effectiveness nonionic superwetting compound, a nonionic surfactant for agrochemicals, an economical agricultural adjuvant, a high-efficiency wetting agent for spray mixes, a hard-water-tolerant nonionic adjuvant or a lower-cost alternative to premium superwetters, Celerad LC is the technical answer in Quimiconsult's catalog, backed by in-house manufacturing, complete technical documentation (CoA, TDS, HDS/SDS) and advice on dosing and validating the product in each application.

What is a nonionic superwetting compound and why does it reduce surface tension?

A superwetter is an adjuvant capable of reducing the surface tension of the spray mix below ~30 dynes/cm, the level at which the droplet fundamentally changes its behavior on the leaf surface: instead of remaining a spherical droplet that can roll or bounce off the leaf, the droplet spreads out as a thin film, maximizing the contact area of the active ingredient with the plant cuticle. Celerad LC is a nonionic superwetting compound, that is, a surfactant with no electrical charge in solution, highly effective at achieving that spreading and wetting on waxy, hard-to-wet surfaces, with a formulation designed to offer high effectiveness at an affordable cost.

Unlike 100% trisiloxane-based Celerad —which reaches the most extreme surface tension reduction values (~20-22 dynes/cm) and represents the line's maximum performance—, Celerad LC is a compound that delivers the same superwetting function with high effectiveness and a better cost-benefit ratio, making it the practical choice for programs where cost per application is a deciding factor.

Celerad LC as an economical alternative to BASF's Break-Thru®

Celerad LC is a Mexican-made, cost-optimized alternative to the benchmark nonionic superwetting adjuvants on the market, such as BASF's Break-Thru®. It performs the same type of function —reducing the surface tension of the spray mix to improve wetting, coverage, uptake and dispersion of the active ingredient—, although, because it is a formulated compound and not a pure trisiloxane, it does not aim to match the extreme performance of a premium superwetter, but rather to offer high effectiveness at a more competitive cost. For formulators, distributors and growers who want a reliable nonionic superwetter with better program economics, Celerad LC is the line's choice, with domestic manufacturing in Monterrey, timely delivery throughout Mexico, batch documentation and technical advice. As with any adjuvant change, we recommend validating performance in the specific application with a preliminary trial.

Break-Thru® is a registered trademark of BASF, mentioned here solely for reference and technical comparison purposes. The comparison is expressed only as a functional analogy between products in the same category and does not imply equivalent performance; results may vary depending on the crop, the mixing water and the application conditions, so they should be verified in the field through your own trials before any substitution decision. Celerad LC is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by BASF.

Its key properties are excellent wetting capacity, promotion of rapid uptake and better coverage, and its nonionic character, which gives it broad compatibility with agrochemical active ingredients of different chemical natures and high tolerance to mixing water conditions.

Nonionic vs. anionic: why surfactant charge matters in agrochemicals

The ionic charge of the adjuvant surfactant has a direct impact on compatibility with the active ingredient and on the stability of the spray mix. As a nonionic surfactant, Celerad LC has no electrical charge in solution, which gives it practical advantages over anionic surfactants:

  • Greater hard-water tolerance: nonionic surfactants do not form insoluble calcium or magnesium soaps in very hard water, unlike anionic surfactants, which can partially precipitate and reduce the available active concentration. In northern Mexico, where the hardness of well or reservoir water can be high, this property is especially relevant to spray mix stability.
  • Broad compatibility with active ingredients of any charge: cationic active ingredients (such as paraquat or some quaternary ammonium compounds) can precipitate in the presence of anionic surfactants through ion pairing. Because it is nonionic, Celerad LC is compatible with the full spectrum of ionic charges of active ingredients.
  • Less sensitivity to water pH: nonionic surfactants keep their wetting properties stable across the typical pH range of spray mixes (pH 5 to 8), without the changes in behavior that anionic surfactants can show at extreme pH.
  • Compatibility with complex tank mixes: in mixes combining herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and foliar fertilizers, the presence of multiple charged components can create incompatibilities with ionic surfactants. Thanks to its nonionic nature, Celerad LC is compatible with most complex tank mixes.

How does Celerad LC improve active ingredient efficacy in spraying?

Smaller effective droplet size. By reducing the surface tension of the spray mix, nozzles produce smaller-diameter droplets at the same working pressure, increasing the number of droplets per unit area and improving coverage without having to increase the spray volume applied.

Film spreading on the leaf surface. When the surface tension of the spray mix drops below the critical tension of the cuticle, the contact angle between the droplet and the leaf decreases, the droplet spreads instead of staying spherical, and the contact area of the active ingredient with the cuticle multiplies. This effect is especially critical on leaves with a waxy or hairy cuticle, where droplets without surfactant roll or run off without making effective contact.

Faster penetration of the active ingredient. Reducing the interfacial tension between the spray mix and the cuticle speeds up the uptake of the active ingredient into the plant's internal tissues, shortening the exposure time on the surface before penetration. This is valuable under high temperatures or strong sunlight, where the water in the spray mix can evaporate before uptake is complete without the help of a surfactant.

Dispersion in non-aqueous systems. In addition to its role in spraying, Celerad LC acts as a dispersant in non-aqueous systems, making it easier to prepare concentrated formulations and improving the stability of emulsions and suspensions during storage and application.

Celerad LC applications in agrochemical formulations and spray mixes

We always recommend following the label of the main agrochemical and validating the dose with a preliminary trial.

Adjuvant in systemic herbicide spray mixes

Systemic herbicides —glyphosate, glufosinate and sulfonylureas— depend heavily on foliar uptake: the active ingredient must penetrate the cuticle and translocate to the weed's growing tissues. Every minute the active ingredient stays on the surface without penetrating is a potential loss of efficacy due to rain, dew or photochemical degradation. Celerad LC reduces the droplet's surface tension and speeds up uptake of the active ingredient through the cuticle, improving herbicide efficacy under suboptimal application conditions.

Improved coverage for contact fungicides and insecticides

Contact fungicides (mancozeb, chlorothalonil) and contact insecticides (pyrethroids) must evenly cover the entire leaf surface, including the underside, where many pathogens and insects concentrate. Without an adjuvant, spray droplets at natural surface tension tend to collect on veins and edges because of the high contact angle on the waxy surface. Celerad LC reduces surface tension to levels that allow the droplet to spread evenly over the whole surface, improving coverage on the underside and on hydrophobic surfaces where these products have more difficulty adhering.

Adjuvant in water-based formulations

When formulating ready-to-use agrochemical products or high-dilution concentrates (SL, SC, ME), adding Celerad LC during manufacturing improves formulation stability by reducing the interfacial tension between the aqueous and oil phases, promoting homogeneous dispersion of poorly soluble active ingredients, and improves the wetting of the finished product without the end user having to add an adjuvant to the prepared spray mix.

Dispersion and wetting in non-aqueous systems

Its compatibility with non-aqueous systems allows its use in formulation processes with organic solvents, oils or mixed phases, where conventional water-based wetting agents do not work. In emulsifiable concentrates (EC) or oil-based formulations (ME), Celerad LC acts as a dispersant for the solid particles of the active ingredient in the oil phase, improving formulation homogeneity before final emulsification.

Celerad LC use concentration and method of incorporation

It is important to distinguish between use as a raw material in formulation and use as a tank adjuvant in the field:

Incorporation into agrochemical formulations (use as a raw material): approximately 0.5 – 1.0% of the total formulation, with optimal performance in formulations at pH 6.0 – 8.0. Celerad LC can be added at any stage of the process; it is recommended to add it to the aqueous phase before adding the active ingredient so the surfactant is already at the interface during dispersion or emulsification. For use as a wetting agent in concentrates to be reconstituted, doses of around 0.2 – 0.5% by weight, adjusting to the level of wetting required in the diluted product.

Use as a tank-mix adjuvant in the field: because it is a formulated compound (and not a very-high-active pure trisiloxane), Celerad LC is used at higher doses than a concentrated superwetter, commonly around 0.25 to 1.0% v/v depending on the crop, the hardness of the cuticle and the type of application. Always follow the dose indicated on the label of the main agrochemical and validate the dose with a preliminary trial. Add Celerad LC to the tank under agitation during filling (after the water and the active ingredient, following the recommended mixing order); its nonionic nature makes it compatible with most active ingredients.

Celerad LC is added directly under moderate agitation, with no need for pre-dilution or pre-heating. Its neutral pH (6.0 – 7.0) allows it to be added to aqueous systems without significantly altering the pH of the spray mix, which matters in mixes with pH-sensitive active ingredients.

Celerad, Celerad LC and Dioctil Sulfosuccinato de Sodio 70%: Quimiconsult adjuvant selection guide

Quimiconsult offers several wetting adjuvant options for agrochemical formulations and spray mixes, with different performance, ionic charge and cost profiles:

  • Celerad (100% trisiloxane-based superwetter, nonionic): the line's maximum performance; extreme surface tension reduction (~20-22 dynes/cm) for the most demanding crops and conditions. The premium option.
  • Celerad LC (high-effectiveness nonionic superwetting compound): the same type of nonionic superwetting function with high effectiveness and a better cost-benefit ratio; the option for programs where cost per application is a deciding factor. Hard-water tolerant and compatible with active ingredients of any charge.
  • Dioctil Sulfosuccinato de Sodio 70% (anionic wetting agent for agrochemical use): the portfolio's anionic option, suitable for systems without ionic compatibility or water hardness issues.

How to choose: Celerad LC is the safe option when the active ingredient is cationic or of unknown charge, when the mixing water is hard, and when you want a reliable nonionic superwetter with the best program economics. For maximum performance on the most difficult crops, consider Celerad (100% trisiloxane). For anionic systems without compatibility restrictions, Dioctil Sulfosuccinato de Sodio 70%. Our technical team can help you select the optimal product based on the charge of the active ingredient, the water hardness and the target crop.

Celerad LC pack sizes, storage and shelf life

Pack sizes: Celerad LC is available in a 20 kg blue jerrycan (evaluation or small formulation volumes), a 50 kg blue drum (medium-volume production) and a 1,000 kg natural tote (high-volume manufacturers), as well as a sample for technical evaluation in a formulation or spray mix.

Storage: keep in the original closed container, in a cool, dry place protected from direct sunlight, at a controlled temperature (ideally between 5 and 40 °C), away from incompatible substances (concentrated strong acids and alkalis). After prolonged standing it may show slight phase separation; shake before use to restore homogeneity.

Shelf life: the official expiration date and shelf-life conditions are shown on the container and on the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) of the corresponding batch.

Frequently asked questions about Celerad LC

What is Celerad LC and what is it used for?

Celerad LC is a high-effectiveness nonionic superwetting compound, formulated by Quimiconsult, that reduces the surface tension of spray mixes and agrochemical formulations to improve wetting, coverage, uptake and dispersion of the active ingredient in water-based herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. It is used as a tank adjuvant in the field and as an adjuvant in the manufacture of formulations.

What is the difference between Celerad and Celerad LC?

Celerad is a concentrated 100% trisiloxane-based superwetter, the maximum-performance option (it reduces surface tension down to ~20-22 dynes/cm). Celerad LC is a high-effectiveness nonionic superwetting compound that offers the same type of function with a better cost-benefit ratio: the economical option when cost per application is a deciding factor. Both are nonionic and compatible with hard water and active ingredients of any charge.

Is Celerad LC an alternative to BASF's Break-Thru®?

Celerad LC is a Mexican-made, cost-optimized alternative with the same type of function as BASF's Break-Thru® (a nonionic superwetter to improve coverage, uptake and dispersion). Because it is a formulated compound, it does not aim to match the extreme performance of a premium superwetter, but to offer high effectiveness at a more competitive cost. Break-Thru® is a registered trademark of BASF, cited only for reference purposes and as a functional analogy, without implying equivalent performance; results should be verified in the field, in your specific application, through a preliminary trial.

What does it mean that Celerad LC is "nonionic" and why does it matter?

A nonionic surfactant has no electrical charge in aqueous solution. This gives it three practical advantages: greater tolerance to very hard water (it does not precipitate with calcium and magnesium), compatibility with active ingredients of any charge (including cationic ones, which are incompatible with anionic surfactants) and stability regardless of the spray mix pH within the typical use range (pH 5 to 8).

Can Celerad LC be used with glyphosate and other systemic herbicides?

Yes. It is compatible with glyphosate (isopropylamine and ammonium salts) and with most commonly used systemic herbicides. In herbicides that already contain surfactant, Celerad LC can provide an additional coverage benefit in hard water or on very hydrophobic leaf surfaces; in herbicides without surfactant, it is a high-value adjuvant for improving uptake. Check compatibility with the commercial formulation before field-scale mixes.

What dose of Celerad LC is used?

As a raw material incorporated into a formulation, approximately 0.5 – 1.0% of the total formulation (0.2 – 0.5% as a wetting agent in concentrates to be reconstituted). As a tank adjuvant in the field, around 0.25 – 1.0% v/v depending on the crop and the application, always following the label of the main agrochemical and validating with a preliminary trial.

Does Celerad LC offer savings compared with a premium superwetter?

Yes. Celerad LC is designed as the best cost-benefit option among nonionic superwetters: it offers the same type of adjuvant function with high effectiveness at a more affordable cost, which can translate into a lower cost per application. It does not aim to match the extreme performance of a 100% trisiloxane, but to offer a high-performance solution with optimized economics. Request a volume quote to evaluate the cost per application in your program.

Is it safe to handle?

It should be handled with the recommended PPE (nitrile gloves, eye protection) and good ventilation. The complete GHS classification, hazard statements and first aid must be taken from the product's current SDS.
