Allium LCX Description — Dispersant and Scale Inhibitor for Alkaline Cleaners and Bottle Washing
At Quimiconsult we offer Allium LCX, a proprietary dispersant blend with highly effective scale inhibition, designed to boost alkaline cleaners in bottle washing, industrial chlorinated formulations and cooling water systems. Allium LCX prevents scale formation, such as calcium carbonate, at low dosages, and stays effective even in very hard water.
Allium LCX works in synergy with alkaline cleaners and improves their dispersing effect: it adsorbs suspended inorganic particles, keeps them dispersed and stops them settling on bottles, equipment and heat-exchange surfaces. The result is faster rinsing after the alkaline cycle, fewer deposits in the washers and cleaner surfaces. It also offers outstanding stability to chlorine and bleaching lye, so it can be built into chlorinated formulations.
For anyone looking for a scale inhibitor for bottle washing, an antiscalant for alkaline cleaners, a chlorine-stable dispersant or an additive for very hard water, Allium LCX is the technical answer in the Quimiconsult catalogue, available from Monterrey, Nuevo León, with shipping throughout Mexico.
Allium LCX technical characteristics
Allium LCX is a brownish product with a minimum solids content of 82%, a pH of 1.00 to 2.50 in a 2% solution and a density of 1.25 to 1.50 g/cm³ at 20 °C. Because it is acidic as a concentrate, in formulations with bleaching lye and alkali Allium LCX must always be neutralized before the latter are added.
Its high solids content means it can be dosed in small amounts to achieve scale inhibition, making it cost-efficient within the alkaline cleaner formulation.

How does Allium LCX work? Scale inhibition + dispersion
Allium LCX improves the performance of alkaline cleaners through two complementary mechanisms:
Scale inhibition at low dosages. In hard water, calcium and magnesium precipitate as carbonates and other salts when heated or when they meet alkaline solutions, forming scale on bottles, washers, pipes and exchangers. Allium LCX interferes with the formation and growth of these crystals at low dosages, so the salts never get to stick to surfaces, even in very hard water.
Dispersion of inorganic particles. Allium LCX adsorbs onto suspended inorganic particles —precipitated salts, label residue, dirt and pigments— and keeps them dispersed in the solution instead of letting them clump and settle. This improves soil dispersibility and allows faster rinsing after the alkaline cycle.
Why does an alkaline cleaner need a scale inhibitor?
Alkaline cleaners, such as the caustic soda used in bottle washing, are very effective at removing fat, protein and labels, but they have a side effect: by raising the pH and temperature of the water, they cause water hardness to precipitate. Without an inhibitor, calcium carbonate and other salts deposit on bottles, which come out dull or spotted, and in the washers, where they reduce heat transfer and block nozzles and pipes.
Adding Allium LCX to the alkaline cleaner solves the problem at the formulation stage: the wash solution stays clean for longer, rinsing is faster and surfaces stay free of mineral deposits.
Allium LCX applications
The dosage and protocol should be validated with the Quimiconsult technical team for the water hardness, operating temperature and type of alkaline cleaner.
Alkaline bottle washing
This is Allium LCX's main application: as an additive to the caustic solution in returnable glass bottle washers in the beverage, brewing and dairy industries. It prevents scale on bottles and in the washer, disperses label residue and inorganic soil, and speeds up rinsing, for bright, spot-free bottles.
Industrial chlorinated formulations
With its outstanding stability to chlorine and bleaching lye, Allium LCX can be built into chlorinated alkaline detergents and hypochlorite cleaners, where many conventional dispersants break down. Remember to neutralize it before adding the lye and alkali.
Cooling water
As a scale inhibitor and dispersant in cooling water systems, protecting towers, exchangers and pipes from calcium carbonate deposits in very hard water.
Allium LCX directions for use and formulation guidance
Dosage: Allium LCX is effective at low dosages. The optimal dose depends on water hardness, temperature and the alkalinity of the solution; the Quimiconsult technical team will help you set it with trials under your operating conditions.
Order of addition: in formulations combining Allium LCX with bleaching lye and alkali, always neutralize Allium LCX before adding the latter.
Good practice: check the hardness of the feed water; monitor the appearance of the bottles and the washer; and adjust the dose to the results. Validate compatibility with the other ingredients of your formulation with stability tests.
Allium LCX safety, handling and storage
Allium LCX is acidic as a concentrate (pH 1.00 to 2.50 in a 2% solution) and must be handled according to the recommendations in its current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Wear personal protective equipment: safety glasses, chemical-resistant gloves and protective clothing, and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Storage: keep in the original closed container in a cool, dry, ventilated place, away from alkalis and concentrated chlorinated products. Dispose of leftover product and empty containers in accordance with current environmental regulations.
Allium LCX compared with other sequestrants and antiscalants
Allium LCX vs. EDTA and sodium gluconate: EDTA and gluconate are sequestrants that bind calcium and magnesium in proportion to their concentration, so they need high doses in very hard water. Allium LCX works as a scale inhibitor at low dosages and also disperses inorganic particles. Many formulations combine them for the best cost-performance.
Allium LCX vs. PBTC: PBTC is a phosphonate scale and corrosion inhibitor widely used in cooling water. Allium LCX is aimed at boosting alkaline cleaners, with an added dispersing effect and stability to chlorine, which makes it especially suited to bottle washing and chlorinated formulations.
Allium LCX frequently asked questions
What is Allium LCX and what is it used for?
Allium LCX is a proprietary dispersant blend that inhibits scale formation and improves the dispersing power of alkaline cleaners. It is used in alkaline bottle washing, industrial chlorinated formulations and cooling water.
Does it work in very hard water?
Yes. Allium LCX stays effective even in very hard water and prevents scale such as calcium carbonate at low dosages.
Can it be used in chlorinated formulations?
Yes. Allium LCX has outstanding stability to chlorine and bleaching lye. In the formulation, always neutralize it before adding the lye and alkali.
Why must it be neutralized before adding lye and alkali?
Because Allium LCX is acidic as a concentrate. Neutralizing it first avoids an uncontrolled reaction with the alkali and protects the stability of the bleaching lye in the formulation.
What are the benefits in bottle washing?
It prevents scale on bottles and washers, disperses inorganic soil and label residue, and allows faster rinsing after the alkaline cycle, for clean, spot-free bottles.
What dosage is recommended?
Allium LCX is effective at low dosages; the optimal dose depends on water hardness, temperature and the alkalinity of the solution. Contact us to set it with trials under your operating conditions.
