At Quimiconsult we distribute AK 100 WACKER®, a linear, non-reactive silicone oil or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) silicone fluid with a viscosity of approx. 100 mm²/s (100 cSt) at 25 °C, for industrial use in Mexico as a release agent, lubricant, antifoam, water repellent and additive for polishes, plastics and textile auxiliaries, as well as a dielectric fluid and heat-transfer oil. It is a clear, colorless and odorless liquid, 100% polydimethylsiloxane (CAS 63148-62-9), with a set of properties that sets it apart from organic materials such as mineral oils.
PDMS silicone oils are polymers whose backbone is not made of carbon but of alternating silicon and oxygen atoms (the siloxane bond, Si–O–Si), with methyl groups attached to each silicon atom. This structure is responsible for the behavior that makes AK 100 so useful: stable properties over a broad temperature range, excellent water repellency, low surface tension with high surface activity and a high flash point with heat resistance. AK 100 is soluble in organic solvents and immiscible with water, so it forms thin, uniform water-repellent films on the surfaces it is applied to.
Among silicone oils, the number in the name indicates the fluid's approximate viscosity. At 100 mm²/s, AK 100 is a low-to-medium viscosity grade: it flows and pumps easily at room temperature and spreads well over surfaces and molds, while leaving a lubricating film with more body than very thin fluids. That is why it is a versatile option when a general-purpose silicone oil is needed for maintenance, mold release, lubrication of plastics and rubber, and the formulation of finishing and protective products.
At Quimiconsult, based in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, we distribute industrial-grade AK 100 WACKER® silicone oil with shipping throughout Mexico, a technical data sheet (TDS) and a safety data sheet (HDS/SDS) in accordance with NOM-018-STPS-2015, and technical advice on how to incorporate it. We serve plastics and rubber injection and molding plants, polish and wax manufacturers, formulators of maintenance and protective products, the textile industry, industrial maintenance shops and chemical manufacturers looking for a reliable 100 cSt polydimethylsiloxane in Mexico.
AK 100 WACKER® technical characteristics
AK 100 is a 100% active silicone fluid (100% polydimethylsiloxane, according to the composition declared in its safety data sheet), with no solvents or water. It is a clear, colorless, transparent and odorless liquid, with a density of approx. 0.96 g/cm³ at 25 °C and a kinematic viscosity of approx. 100 mm²/s at 25 °C. Its flash point is 253 °C and its ignition temperature 395 °C, values that reflect its high heat resistance compared with many organic oils and fluids.
It is practically insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents, so it can be applied neat or diluted in a suitable solvent to obtain thinner films. It is chemically stable under normal conditions, hazardous polymerization does not occur, and its safety data sheet reports no known incompatible materials. As a linear, non-reactive fluid, it does not cure or harden: it stays liquid and keeps its lubricating, releasing or water-repellent function as long as the film remains on the surface.
The benefits the manufacturer highlights in the AK 100 technical data sheet are:
- Stable properties over a broad temperature range, making it suitable for processes with heating and cooling.
- Excellent water repellency, the basis of its use in water repellents, polishes and hydrophobic finishes.
- Low surface tension and high surface activity, which let it wet and spread over surfaces, release parts from molds and act on foam.
- High flash point and heat resistance, useful in dielectric and heat-transfer applications.

How does AK 100 silicone oil work?
The performance of AK 100 across its applications comes down to a few properties of polydimethylsiloxane working together:
Low surface tension and high surface activity. PDMS has a lower surface tension than water and most organic liquids. It therefore spreads spontaneously over metals, plastics, rubber, glass and fibers, forming a continuous, very thin film. That film is what separates the part from the mold (release effect), reduces friction between surfaces (lubricating effect) and, in systems where silicone is insoluble, enters the walls of the bubbles and destabilizes them (antifoam effect).
Water repellency. The methyl groups covering the silicone chain present a non-polar surface to the outside. A surface treated with AK 100 makes water bead up and run off instead of wetting it, which is used in polishes, shine products, protective finishes and water-proofing of surfaces and textiles.
Non-reactivity and chemical inertness. As a linear, non-reactive fluid, AK 100 does not react with most of the materials it touches: it does not cure or harden, and its safety data sheet reports no known incompatibilities. This allows it to be used as an additive in plastics, polishes and textile auxiliaries without chemically altering the base formulation.
Thermal stability. The siloxane bond gives it stable properties over a broad temperature range and a high flash point (253 °C). This is what allows it to be used as a heat-transfer oil and dielectric fluid. Keep in mind what its safety data sheet states: above 150 °C, oxidation may form small amounts of formaldehyde, so high-temperature processes in contact with air require adequate ventilation.
Viscosity of 100 mm²/s. The viscosity of the AK 100 grade is a balance point: fluid enough to be applied by spraying, brushing, wiping or dipping and to be dosed easily, yet with enough body to leave a persistent lubricating and protective film.
Applications of AK 100 WACKER® silicone oil
The AK 100 technical data sheet lists its use as a release agent, lubricant, antifoam, water repellent, additive for polishes, plastics and textile auxiliaries, dielectric fluid and heat-transfer oil. These are the most common industrial applications in Mexico:
Release agent for plastics and rubber
Applied to the mold surface, AK 100 forms a non-stick film that makes it easier to release plastic, rubber and other molded parts, reduces the extraction effort and helps protect the mold surface. It can be used neat in very thin coats or diluted in an organic solvent for spray application. For parts that will later be painted, printed or bonded, validate first, because any silicone residue on the part can affect the adhesion of paints, inks and adhesives.
Industrial lubricant for plastics, rubber and light mechanisms
As a lubricant, AK 100 reduces friction on guides, belts, rollers, seals and plastic or rubber parts, where many organic lubricants may be undesirable. Its film is clean, colorless and odorless, and remains stable over a broad temperature range.
Antifoam for non-aqueous systems and base for antifoam formulations
Thanks to its low surface tension and its insolubility in many media, polydimethylsiloxane is the basis of a large share of silicone antifoams. AK 100 can be used as an antifoam in systems in which it is insoluble and as a raw material for antifoam formulators. In water-based systems, because it is immiscible with water, an already emulsified or formulated silicone is normally used; for those cases Quimiconsult offers ready-to-use silicone antifoam emulsions (see Related products).
Polishes, waxes and shine products
Its technical data sheet lists it as an additive for polishes, where it contributes its excellent water repellency. Its solubility in organic solvents makes it easy to incorporate into solvent-based polishes and waxes.
Water repellent and surface water-proofing
The hydrophobic film left by AK 100 makes water bead up and run off. It is used in water-repellent treatments for surfaces and in protective and maintenance products intended to reduce wetting by water.
Plastics industry: process additive
As an additive for plastics, silicone oil is used to improve slip, flow and mold release. Being non-reactive, it does not alter the chemistry of the base polymer. Dose and effect must be validated for each resin and process.
Textile industry: finishing auxiliary
The technical data sheet lists AK 100 as an additive for textile auxiliaries, where it can contribute lubrication and water repellency. For use in aqueous baths, the silicone fluid is normally incorporated already emulsified or formulated.
Dielectric fluid and heat-transfer oil
Its heat resistance, high flash point and stable properties over a broad temperature range make PDMS a fluid used as a dielectric and as a heat-transfer medium. In these applications, remember the SDS warning: above 150 °C, oxidation may generate small amounts of formaldehyde, so systems open to air must have adequate ventilation. The user must confirm the fluid's suitability for their equipment and operating conditions.
Industrial maintenance and chemical product formulation
In shops and plants, AK 100 can be used as a lubricant, and formulators can incorporate it as an additive in polishes and water-repellent products. As a 100% active fluid, it lets the formulator adjust the final concentration to suit their product.
AK 100 directions for use and dosage
The AK 100 technical data sheet does not set fixed doses: the right amount depends on the application, the surface and the process. As the manufacturer itself states, all information must be confirmed through practical application, and anyone using the product must first make sure of its suitability for the intended purpose. These are the general guidelines for use:
- As a release agent: apply a very thin, even coat to the clean mold (with a cloth, brush or spray). Excess silicone does not improve release and can transfer to the part; for thinner films, AK 100 can be diluted in a compatible organic solvent.
- As a lubricant: apply directly to the surface or mechanism in the smallest amount that achieves the desired effect and remove the excess.
- As an additive in polishes, plastics or textile auxiliaries: incorporate into the compatible phase (solvent or organic) and determine the concentration through laboratory and plant trials. In aqueous systems, the fluid is normally used in emulsified form.
- As an antifoam: dose in small amounts and increase gradually until the foam is controlled; validate that no surface defects appear in the final product.
- As a thermal or dielectric fluid: check compatibility with the equipment and take into account formaldehyde formation by oxidation above 150 °C in the presence of air.
During application, avoid forming mists or aerosols; if they form, use local exhaust and respiratory protection, as the safety data sheet indicates. Our technical team can help you define the application method and the trial plan for your process.
AK 100 WACKER® certifications
Industrial-grade AK 100 WACKER® is supplied with its technical data sheet (TDS) and its safety data sheet (HDS/SDS), prepared in accordance with NOM-018-STPS-2015 and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). You can request a certificate of analysis per lot for your audits and supplier-approval processes.
AK 100 safety, handling and storage
Hazard classification. According to its safety data sheet, AK 100 is not classified as hazardous under GHS: it carries no pictogram, signal word or hazard statements. Its NFPA rating is health 0, flammability 1 and reactivity 0. It is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport (no UN number). The main practical hazard is a different one: spilled product makes surfaces very slippery.
Precautionary statements. The SDS indicates wearing protective gloves and eye protection (P280); if on skin, wipe off excess and wash with soap and water (P302+P352); if in eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if present and easy to do, and continue rinsing (P305+P351+P338); and dispose of contents and container in accordance with national and international regulations (P501).
Personal protective equipment. Safety glasses with side shields; liquid-tight rubber or vinyl gloves; an eye wash and safety shower in the work area. Respiratory protection is not normally required, unless aerosols or mists are formed.
Safe handling. Avoid forming aerosols; if they form, use local exhaust and respiratory protection. Keep in mind that spilled product increases the risk of slipping. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling.
First aid. Skin contact: wipe off excess with a cloth or paper, use a waterless hand cleaner and then wash with soap and water. Eye contact: hold the eyelids apart and flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if irritation persists, seek medical attention. Ingestion: no special measures required; rinse the mouth with water and, if discomfort occurs, seek medical attention. Inhalation: under normal conditions the product cannot be inhaled; mists may cause mild irritation.
Spills. Secure the area, wear personal protective equipment, mark the slipping hazard and do not walk through spilled product. Take up mechanically: absorb small amounts with inert material (diatomaceous earth) and recover large amounts by pumping. Do not flush with water. Clean the remaining film with detergent and apply sand to improve traction. Prevent the product from entering surface water, drains or soil, and inform the authorities in case of a major release.
Fire. No unusual fire or explosion hazards. Extinguishing media: water mist, carbon dioxide, sand, dry chemical or alcohol-resistant foam; do not use a direct water jet. Combustion releases carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, silicon dioxide and incompletely burnt hydrocarbons. Firefighters must wear full protective clothing with self-contained breathing apparatus and cool containers exposed to fire with water.
Stability. Stable under normal conditions; hazardous polymerization does not occur; no hazardous reactions are known if stored and handled in accordance with industrial practice. Above 150 °C, oxidation may form small amounts of formaldehyde.
Storage. Store in accordance with current regulations and standards, in a dry and cool place. The maximum storage and transport temperature is 50 °C.
Toxicological and environmental information. Oral LD50 (rat) greater than 5,000 mg/kg and dermal LD50 (rat) greater than 2,000 mg/kg; not irritating and not sensitizing to the skin; no significant mutagenic potential, and animal studies showed no carcinogenic or reproductive toxicity effects. No damaging effects to aquatic organisms and no bioaccumulation are expected; the product is not biodegradable and is eliminated by adsorption to activated sludge. No exposure limits are known for the product.
Disposal. Unused product and empty containers must be disposed of in accordance with current environmental regulations (for example, landfill or incineration) through an authorized company. Completely emptied containers may be recycled or reused.
Everyone handling the product must read and be trained on the safety data sheet before using it.
Compatibility and comparison: AK 100 versus other options
Silicone oil vs. mineral oil. The AK 100 technical data sheet highlights that its properties set it apart from organic materials such as mineral oils. In practice, a PDMS silicone fluid offers properties that are more stable with temperature changes, greater water repellency, lower surface tension and a high flash point (253 °C for AK 100). Mineral oil is a lower-cost alternative for general lubrication, but it does not deliver the same performance in mold release, water repellency or temperature applications.
AK 100 versus other silicone viscosities. Silicone fluids are made in different viscosities. Generally speaking, lower-viscosity grades spread and penetrate more easily, while higher-viscosity grades leave films with more body and persistence. AK 100, at approx. 100 mm²/s, is a low-to-medium viscosity grade.
Silicone oil vs. formulated silicone antifoam. AK 100 is pure polydimethylsiloxane. Commercial silicone antifoams are usually formulations (compounds or emulsions) designed to disperse in the medium to be defoamed. If you need to control foam in a water-based system, a silicone antifoam emulsion is normally the better choice; for solvent- or oil-based systems there are silicone antifoams specifically for non-aqueous systems. You will find both options under Related products.
PDMS silicone oil vs. organomodified silicones. Organomodified silicones, such as the trisiloxanes used in agricultural adjuvants, are designed to be superwetting in aqueous media. AK 100, by contrast, is an unmodified, water-immiscible PDMS aimed at hydrophobic films, lubrication and mold release.
Material compatibility. The AK 100 safety data sheet reports no known incompatible materials. Before applying it to parts that will be painted, printed, bonded or metallized, validate the effect of silicone residues on adhesion, since the low surface tension that makes it a good release agent can also hinder those downstream processes.
