Agrostat LVS Description — Fast-Acting, Broad-Spectrum Biocidal Teat Sealant
At Quimiconsult we offer Agrostat LVS, a next-generation fast-acting, broad-spectrum biocidal sealant formulated with the Factor-3 system and more than 6,000 ppm of active iodine. It is a clear liquid (density 0.97 – 1.0 g/cc; pH 4.5 – 5.5 in a 1% solution) designed for teat dipping after milking (post-dipping), where it acts both as a contact biocide and as a barrier sealant that protects the teat canal during the interval between milkings. It is designed to reduce the mastitis case rate and its cost per treatment.
Its high concentration of active iodine, combined with the short-chain nonionic surfactants of the Factor-3 system, gives it a germicidal action that kills microorganisms within 30 seconds of contact, even in the presence of contaminating solids from bedding or the environment. In the microbial challenge reported in the technical data sheet, Agrostat LVS proved 99.99% effective against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus with a contact time of 30 seconds. After the germicidal action, its cosmetic-grade emollients form a uniform, resilient, fast-drying film that protects the teat skin and promotes epithelial repair.
From San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, Agrostat LVS is available nationwide, with a technical data sheet (TDS), safety data sheet (SDS) and on-farm technical support to implement the post-dipping protocol. For anyone looking for a teat sealant, a broad-spectrum biocide, a fast-acting biocide, an iodine post-milking sealant or mastitis control, Agrostat LVS is the technical answer in the Quimiconsult catalog.
What is Agrostat LVS? Post-dipping sealant and broad-spectrum biocide
Agrostat LVS is a post-dipping barrier sealant for dairy cattle and, at the same time, a broad-spectrum biocide with more than 6,000 ppm of active iodine. It is also referred to as a post-milking sealant, iodine veterinary sealant, mastitis-control biocide or broad-spectrum biocide.
- Fast-acting biocide: kills pathogens within 30 seconds of contact—a key difference from conventional iodine sealants, which usually require longer contact times to achieve the same reduction.
- Broad spectrum: effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi and yeasts, covering the relevant pathogens of contagious and environmental mastitis.
- Barrier sealant: forms a uniform protective film over the teat that hinders the entry of new pathogens during the period when the canal is most vulnerable.

The Factor-3 system: how the Agrostat LVS biocide works
The Factor-3 system combines three mechanisms that work synergistically on the microorganisms in the teat canal and teat tissue:
- Biocidal action of active iodine. The more than 6,000 ppm of active iodine oxidize the components of microbial proteins and enzymes, destroying cell integrity. The reaction is fast and irreversible, which explains the 30-second action.
- Penetration enhanced by short-chain surfactants. The short-chain nonionic surfactants lower surface tension and permeate the cell wall and membrane, carrying the biocidal action into the cytoplasm and into the micro-irregularities of the tissue where pathogens lodge—which maintains effectiveness even in the presence of contaminating solids from bedding or the environment.
- Protective film with emollients. After the germicidal action, the cosmetic-grade emollients form a uniform, fast-drying film that acts as a physical barrier against new pathogens and promotes repair of the teat epithelium, maintaining tissue hydration and integrity to reduce the cracking and hyperkeratosis that predispose the teat to bacterial colonization.
Why more than 6,000 ppm of active iodine matters
Active iodine concentration is the main determinant of the speed of germicidal action and of effective protection after application. Conventional iodine sealants usually have lower concentrations; Agrostat LVS exceeds 6,000 ppm of active iodine, which translates into:
- Faster action: more available free iodine means a shorter contact time to achieve the required reduction (30 seconds).
- Greater residual effectiveness: even after partial dilution by teat fluids, enough iodine remains to sustain the action during the critical period while the canal is open.
- Effectiveness in the presence of organic matter: the excess active iodine offsets inactivation by somatic cells, milk residues or bedding dirt, maintaining effectiveness under real field conditions.
Agrostat LVS applications
Post-dipping sealant for dairy cows
This is the main application: dipping the teat in Agrostat LVS immediately after removing the milking unit. In that window, the teat sphincter stays partially open for 20 to 30 minutes and is the main entry route for environmental mastitis pathogens (E. coli, Streptococcus uberis, coliforms). The Agrostat LVS film acts as a germicidal and physical barrier during the period of greatest vulnerability.
Control of contagious and environmental mastitis
Effective against the main pathogens of contagious bovine mastitis (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae) and environmental mastitis (Streptococcus uberis, E. coli, coliforms) within the same post-dipping protocol. In herds with a high somatic cell count (SCC) or a high incidence of clinical mastitis, its systematic use helps reduce infection pressure on the herd.
Teat tissue protection and conditioning
Its cosmetic-grade emollients maintain hydration, support epithelial repair and reduce cracking and hyperkeratosis—risk factors for mastitis—especially in high-frequency milking systems or during periods of extreme temperatures.
Other applications as a broad-spectrum biocide
As a fast-acting, broad-spectrum iodine biocide, Agrostat LVS has potential use as a germicidal agent at other hygiene and biosecurity points of the livestock operation (disinfection of surfaces and equipment around the milking area, facility hygiene), beyond post-dipping. Any use other than post-dipping must first be validated with the Quimiconsult technical team and the responsible veterinarian, confirming the dilution, contact time and compatibility with the surface or material to be treated.
Application protocol as a post-dipping sealant
- Unit removal: remove the milking unit when milk flow stops, before the vacuum causes over-milking.
- Immediate application: dip the entire teat in the Agrostat LVS solution within the first 30 seconds after removing the unit, covering the canal and the distal third of the teat.
- Contact time: maintain contact for at least 30 seconds.
- Do not dry: unlike a pre-dip, a post-dipping sealant is not wiped off with a towel; the film must stay on the teat so the emollients can work and the barrier is maintained between milkings.
- Coverage check: visually confirm that all teats of each animal were treated before releasing it.
Consistent execution is as decisive as the quality of the sealant: apply it at every milking, on 100% of the animals. The most common deviations are late application and incomplete coverage. The Quimiconsult technical team can train staff and audit execution of the protocol on site.
Agrostat LVS versus conventional iodine sealants
- Speed of action (30 seconds): the Factor-3 system with more than 6,000 ppm of iodine achieves the required reduction in less time than lower-concentration conventional sealants—relevant in high-frequency milking.
- Effectiveness against contaminating solids: short-chain surfactants allow the iodine to reach the microorganism even when soil, bedding or organic matter particles are in the way.
- Fast-drying film: dries faster than heavy greasy bases, reducing runoff and product loss when the animal lies down on its bedding.
- Dual biocidal + emollient function: combines a high concentration of active iodine and cosmetic-grade emollients in a single formulation, without sacrificing one function for the other.
Storage, handling and safety
Agrostat LVS should be stored at room temperature, in its original closed container, in a cool, dry place protected from direct sunlight (active iodine is sensitive to light and heat, which can degrade the active ingredient over time); keep containers unstacked and away from heat sources and from strong oxidizing or reducing agents. It has a minimum shelf life of 12 months under the stated conditions.
Handling: wear gloves and eye protection when handling the concentrate in bulk; in case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water for several minutes and seek medical attention. Do not mix with other products without first validating compatibility with the Quimiconsult technical team. See the current SDS for full precautions.
Frequently asked questions about Agrostat LVS
What is a teat sealant and how is it different from a pre-dip?
A post-dipping sealant is applied to the teat immediately after milking to protect the open canal from pathogen entry during the interval between milkings; a pre-dip (predipping) is applied before milking to reduce the microbial load on the canal before the unit is attached. Agrostat LVS is formulated for the post-dipping function.
How fast does it work?
It kills microorganisms within 30 seconds of contact; in the microbial challenge in the TDS it achieved 99.99% effectiveness against E. coli, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus.
How often is it applied?
At every milking, on 100% of the animals. Skipping a milking creates a window of vulnerability to environmental pathogens. In herds milked three times a day, it is applied at every cycle.
Is it suitable for cows with damaged teats or hyperkeratosis?
Yes; its cosmetic-grade emollients promote epithelial repair and keep the tissue hydrated. For severe lesions, consult the herd's responsible veterinarian.
Can it be used in robotic milking?
It can be used in voluntary milking systems that have an automatic post-dipping function; it is advisable to validate compatibility with the robot model and the conditions of use with the technical team.
Does it have other applications besides post-dipping?
As a broad-spectrum iodine biocide, it has potential use at other hygiene and biosecurity points of the livestock operation, always validating the dilution, contact time and compatibility beforehand with the technical team and the responsible veterinarian.
