Humectants for Personal Care & Cosmetics

USP Grade Propylene Glycol Description At Quimiconsult we offer USP propylene glycol, a pharmaceutical-grade organic compound with the chemical formula C₃H₈O₂, also known as 1,2-propanediol or by its food additive code E1520. It is a clear, colorless, slightly viscous and virtually odorless liquid, with a minimum purity of 99.5% and complete miscibility in water and alcohol. Its CAS number is 57-55-6 and its molecular weight is 76.09 g/mol. USP propylene glycol stands out as an exceptionally versatile solvent capable of dissolving organic substances that are not soluble in water, making it an ideal carrier for flavors, colorants, active pharmaceutical ingredients and cosmetic fragrances. Its hygroscopic nature allows it to attract and retain moisture from the environment, a property that makes it work as a humectant in foods, cosmetics and pharmaceutical formulations, preserving the texture, consistency and shelf life of the products it is added to. Unlike ethylene glycol, which is to…

Polysorbate 20 Description — Tween 20, the Highest-HLB Nonionic Solubilizer in Its Family At Quimiconsult we offer Polysorbate 20, also known as Tween 20, polisorbato 20 (its Spanish name), polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monolaurate, PEG-20 sorbitan monolaurate or by its INCI name Polysorbate 20, a multifunctional nonionic surfactant widely used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food, cleaning, agrochemical, textile, paint and animal care industries for its unique combination of properties: the highest HLB value in the polysorbate family (between 16 and 17), excellent ability to solubilize oils, flavors and fragrances in aqueous media, stability over a wide pH range (acidic and alkaline), no reactivity with ionic agents, complete water miscibility, broad chemical compatibility and a safe industrial handling profile. It is a yellow liquid at room temperature, practically odorless, soluble or dispersible in water, with a hydroxyl number of 100, a pH of 6.0 to 6.5 (5% aqueous solution), ma…

Polysorbate 60 Description — Tween 60, the Benchmark Nonionic Emulsifier for Creams and Lotions At Quimiconsult we offer Polysorbate 60, also known as Tween 60, polisorbato 60 (its Spanish name), polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monostearate, PEG-20 sorbitan monostearate or by its INCI name Polysorbate 60, a nonionic surfactant widely used in the cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical, cleaning, textile and manufacturing industries for its combination of properties: excellent ability to emulsify fatty phases with body and consistency, stability over a wide pH range (acidic and alkaline), no reactivity with ionic agents, water dispersibility, broad chemical compatibility and a safe handling profile. It is a paste at room temperature with a characteristic odor, soluble or dispersible in water, with a hydroxyl value of 81 to 96, a maximum acid value of 2.2 and a maximum free ethylene oxide content of 10 ppm, parameters that guarantee consistent quality and predictable formulation performance. Unli…

High-purity industrial-grade polyethylene glycol for versatile formulations At Quimiconsult we offer PEG 400 (polyethylene glycol 400), industrial grade, a high-purity, translucent liquid polymer with 100 % active content, designed to integrate efficiently into formulations that require compatibility, stability, viscosity control and reliable humectant properties. Its nonionic chemical structure, hygroscopic nature and complete water solubility make it a key functional ingredient in industrial, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, textile, ceramic and technical lubrication processes. The PEG 400 available from Quimiconsult stands out for its ability to act simultaneously as a solvent, plasticizer, lubricant, dispersant and wetting agent, improving system stability, easing the incorporation of raw materials and optimizing the performance of the finished product. Its low volatility, favorable toxicological profile and compatibility with many organic and inorganic compounds make it a safe and highl…

Biosan Description — 96% Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (LABSA), High-Performance Anionic Surfactant   At Quimiconsult we offer Biosan, linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid (LABSA) with a minimum activity of 96%, a high-performance anionic surfactant that is the base raw material for liquid and powder detergents, industrial, institutional and household cleaners, and personal care formulations. Its linear alkyl chain makes it readily biodegradable, which makes it an excellent sustainable alternative to branched dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DDBSA).   Biosan can be neutralized with a range of inorganic bases —such as sodium, potassium or ammonium hydroxide— and organic amines —such as triethanolamine or monoethanolamine— to obtain the tailor-made sulfonate each formulation needs. Its low sulfuric acid content means little salt is formed on neutralization, giving a light-coloured, low-odour sulfonate and leaving the formulator ample room to adjust the viscosity, foam and appearance of th…
