Propionic acid USP grade, food grade. Translucent liquid, minimum 99% active. Soluble in water, ethanol, and ether, with antimicrobial properties that inhibit mold growth and some bacteria. Applications: preservative in foods such as cheeses, sliced bread, pastries, cakes, and meat products. Also known as E280. Properties: pH (1% solution) 2.0–3.0, translucent liquid appearance, Kosher certified, max. aldehydes content 0.05%, max. APHA color 10 ppm, heavy metals such as lead max. 10 ppm, arsenic max. 3 ppm, max. non-volatile residue 0.01%, max. water content 0.15%. CAS 79-09-4.
